The Society for Neuroscience provides international societies with a list of unique International Society Member (ISM) abstract codes that allow some of their members *who are not members of SfN* to submit abstracts to the SfN meeting and register for the meeting at the SfN member rate.
These slots are proportionally allocated based on the membership of the geographical regions of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), excluding the U.S. & Canada region. These regions are as follows: Africa (slots distributed by SONA), Asia-Pacific (FAONS), Latin America (The IBRO Latin American Regional Committee), Western Europe (FENS), and Central/Eastern Europe (FENS).
You have been appointed to be the regional administrator for SONA International Society Member (ISM) slots in Africa. If you are no longer the appropriate contact, we would appreciate if you can provide us with another individual to administer this process.
Please provide your members with an ISM abstract code from the attached spreadsheet along with the instructions. They must submit their abstract at http://www.sfn.org/ism instead of the abstract submission site at www.sfn.org/cfa or the code will not work. The slots should be awarded first to students and postdoctoral candidates, and secondly to people in Category I, II, and III countries <http://www.sfn.org/Member-Center/Join-or-Renew/Individual-Membership/Developing-Countries> of the region as defined by the World Bank.
So that SfN can accurately track the use of ISM codes each year, we ask that you complete and return the attached information sheet to me by *Friday, May 20, 2016*. Next to each Abstract Code, provide the name, e-mail address, country, and status (student, postdoctoral candidate, junior
faculty, tenured faculty) of the individual to whom you have provided a slot.
· *Abstract submission opens Thursday, April 14, 2016*
· *Abstract submission closes Thursday, May 5, 2016, 5:00 p.m.
